Chicanos Por La Causa - Tucson: A promise of Opportunity

About CPLC

Our History

Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC) was organized in 1969 by a group of young Chicano leaders as a way of providing greater social and economic opportunities to those in their community. Initially an advocacy group, CPLC soon expanded its activities and in 1975, became a Community Development Corporation (CDC), providing a variety of community services. In order to better serve the southern region of Arizona, CPLC opened its Tucson office in 1980. Chicanos Por La Causa Tucson is a non-profit, award-winning, minority-run CDC.

The Tucson office serves low-to-moderate income, at-risk, and disadvantaged individuals and families who reside in the City of Tucson, metro rural Pima County, and Santa Cruz County, serving nearly five thousand residents in 2006. CPLC Tucson currently employs over 72 individuals, and is comprised of four departments which include: Housing and Community Development, Economic Development, Youth Leadership and Prevention, and Education. Chicanos Por La Causa Tucson has several affiliates including three charter high schools, an affordable housing development company, a construction company, and real estate brokerage. Chicanos Por La Causa is a progressive, community based organization recognized locally, nationally, and internationally as a model for responsive, integrated human and economic development.

We are committed to providing services to the disadvantaged regardless of ethnicity, nationality, race, gender, age, political views, religion, disability, marital status, or sexual orientation.
